Trump signs executive order

President Donald Trump has signed a controversial executive order titled “Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections,” which could change future US elections.

This order mandates that voters provide documentary proof of US citizenship when registering to vote, such as a passport or government-issued ID, excluding those without these forms from voting.

The order also requires states to collaborate with federal agencies to share voter lists and identify noncitizens. Critics argue this could disenfranchise millions and undermine voter rights, with concerns about shifting power to the federal government. Legal challenges are expected, as many believe the president cannot override existing voting laws. Some have labeled the order “unlawful,” fearing it may suppress voter turnout.
