Mike sat in his dimly lit room, surrounded by bills and unopened envelopes.
His mind was heavy with thoughts of his mother’s mounting medical bills and the exhausting hours he worked to make ends meet. Despite his efforts, the money never seemed to stretch far enough. His mother, Kaila, was growing weaker, and the weight of it all felt like an anchor pulling him under.
His gaze fell on a dusty box in the corner. Inside was the Bible his grandmother, Grace, had left him after her death six years ago. Mike had resented her stubbornness and the last fight they’d had, where he refused to go to church with her. He never opened the Bible after her passing, but tonight, with everything crumbling around him, he felt a strange pull.
“Open it when it’s hard,” he read aloud from the note tucked inside the cover. His fingers trembled as he flipped through the pages, and his breath caught when he found two $100 bills hidden between them.
Tears filled his eyes as he held the money, realizing his grandmother had somehow known he’d need it. Her love for him had been unconditional, despite their differences.
He rushed to his mother’s room, bursting in with the money. “Mom, Grandma saved us,” he said, his voice breaking. Kaila smiled weakly, understanding. “Your grandma always knew what she was doing,” she whispered.
For the first time in years, Mike felt hope. Grace’s love had saved him—just when he needed it most.
