Brian and Linda visited their 90-year-old grandmother, Marlene, after she urgently called them.
Upon entering her room, Linda noticed the dust and mold due to Marlene’s old age and illness. Marlene, weak and frail, handed them each an envelope containing $5,000, urging them to use it wisely. Linda was moved to tears, while Brian showed little gratitude and left without a word of thanks.
The next day, Linda returned to Marlene’s house with $4,000 she had saved, adding it to the money her grandmother had given her. She suggested they use it for Marlene’s eye surgery, but Marlene gently refused, explaining that it was too late for the surgery. Instead, she praised Linda for her thoughtful gesture and reassured her that she would not waste the money.
Linda decided to stay with her grandmother, taking a month off from school to care for her. She renovated the house, fixing the leaks and improving the living conditions. Marlene, overjoyed by the changes, hugged Linda, tears streaming down her face. A week later, Marlene passed away peacefully in her sleep, leaving Linda with a sense of fulfillment and love.
At the lawyer’s office after the funeral, Linda and Brian were informed of Marlene’s will. Brian inherited the house, while Linda received a box containing five old vintage clocks. He mocked her, but Linda didn’t mind. She later discovered that the clocks were worth $40,000 each and contained a note from Marlene, acknowledging that Linda deserved the best. Linda kept the valuable clocks, knowing her grandmother’s love and wisdom would always be with her.
